The students explored the work of Ansel Adams and his work for the National Parks Service. They looked at his photos of the National Parks and explored the light sources in the photos. They also learned about Ansel's distinct style and how changing the background of a piece can highlight the subject matter.
To further study light, the students looked at several Vermeer paintings, including "The Girl with the Girl Earring" and the "Milkmaid". They were able to spot a Vermeer painting from a series of paintings based on his use of light. The students were then asked to photograph a subject of their choice using their own artistic eye. The results were terrific.
